Public debt and intergenerational ethics: how to fund a clean technology ‘Apollo program’?

If the present generation refuses to bear burden of mitigating global heating, could we motivate sufficient action by shifting that our descendants? Several writers have proposed breaking political impasse funding mitigation through public debt. Critics attack such proposals as both unjust and infeasible. In fact, there is reason think some debt financing may be more equitable than placing whole on generation. While it might not viable for all countries take this route simultaneously, a vanguard state, or group states, use fund an ambitious programme develop inexpensive forms clean low- no-emission technology. This would ensure actor set actors leading role in those sectors while at same time benefiting future generations around world.Key policy insights Debt-financed technology research can shift part greenhouse gas descendants, inaction delayed action.Far from being injustice generations, actually fairer expecting full mitigation.Such initiative most feasible if pursued actor.
